BeammWave AB receives prototype order for its first development platform and enters into a Joint Development Agreement with Molex.

BeammWave AB, experts in high frequency communication solutions, today signed a joint development agreement with Molex to explore prototype development of a solution that will integrate the BeammWave digital beamforming concept into several FPGA products. These products include the new and disruptive Molex IAA mmWave antenna and BeammWave’s digital BFIC network.

Molex, LLC, a global electronics leader and subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc., with global headquarters in Lisle, Illinois, signed the initial scope of work valued at approximately $100,000.

“We’re excited that BeammWave may have what we have been looking for – a mmWave beamforming network that could not only deliver outstanding performance but may also potentially be used in a range of different products that will enable us to provide innovative solutions and create value for our customers,” says William Spink, RF Engineering Director at Molex.

“This agreement is critical to BeammWave, as it will influence the future direction of our products and allow innovation to thrive in several use cases. I am very pleased we can do this together with a global company that has an engineering culture with a perfect fit for BeammWave,” says Stefan Svedberg, CEO of BeammWave.

BeammWave AB launches an advanced development platform for digital beamforming.

BeammWave’s fully digital beamforming concept consists of:

  • a zero IF, dual transceiver, tri-band CMOS RF Front-End (RFFE)
  • a Digital BeamForming Accelerator (DBFA)
  • digital beamforming algorithms
  • an extensive patent portfolio

To support evaluation and integration of this concept BeammWave now launches a software upgradable and scalable Development Platform, called DP1, for customers who wish to start preparing their mmWave products for the inevitable future.

The platform DP1 comes with four of BeammWaves RF-chips supporting in total eight (8) antennas.

“This is a significant step for us and most of all for our customers that now get the possibility to integrate our beamforming concept in their environment”, says Per-Olof Brandt, CTO at BeammWave.

BeammWave becomes part of a national competence center for wireless communication.

Vinnova supports eleven new competence centers starting January 2024, where universities and companies will jointly conduct advanced research and education, in areas that are important for a sustainable industry and digital societal transformation. In total, the universities, companies and Vinnova are investing SEK 1 billion during the first five years. The Swedish Wireless Innovation Network (SweWIN), which is part of this initiative, will be led by Professor Emil Björnson at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).

In addition to KTH, RISE and BeammWave, the center will also have contributions from Ericsson, Saab, ABB, CellMax Technologies and Northern Waves.

"BeammWave already has a very good collaboration with KTH and Professor Björnson. We see this as both an acknowledgement and an opportunity for our revolutionary approach to digital beamforming," says Markus Törmänen, co-founder and Board member of BeammWave.

"We are very happy to collaborate with both the Royal Institute of Technology s and other industrial actors in this competence center. This is an excellent opportunity to advance technology development and at the same time strengthen Swedish competitiveness," says Stefan Svedberg, CEO of BeammWave.

The project title is “Resilient Trust – Trusted SMEs for Sustainable Growth of Europeans Economical Backbone to Strengthen the Digital Sovereignty” and consists of totally 29 European partners. The total grant is 5,5 MEUR, of which BeammWave will receive 300 KEUR – approximately 3,5 MSEK.

RESILIENT TRUST focuses on end-to-end security of processing chains – with a focus on strong exploitation for SMEs. This vision will be realized by developing specialized hardware, to establish TRUST in-between a network and a wall of RESILIENCE, even against new attack methods such as post quantum attacks and AI based attacks.

The project will run over 36 months and is coordinated by Université Gustave Eiffel in France. The total project cost is approximately 17 Million Euro. The grant awarded from the EU is 5,5 Million Euro, of which BeammWave will receive 297 394 Euro, approximately 3,5 MSEK.

"This European project brings tremendous value to Europe in securing know-how for systems resilient against malicious and untrusted hardware, says Stefan Svedberg, CEO of BeammWave.

“The project enables BeammWave to work together with our European project partners, which will give us the opportunity to investigate solutions for end-to-end security by boosting RESILIENCE and TRUST along with different key supply chains, that can be implemented in BeammWave’s technology”, says Markus Törmänen, co-founder and Board member of BeammWave.
